New story up on Smashwords.

I've just uploaded my second short story on Smashwords. It's a science fiction story about a scientific study gone wrong, and is selling for $0.99.

If you don't know how Smashword works, it's a neat site full of books and shorter works of all types. You can download samples to see if you like the work before you buy, and there is lots of free stuff.

In other news, I had the gauge on my pressure canner checked this afternoon, and it is only about two pounds off, which is much better than I expected. The Agricultural Extension office in Burlington is great, all kinds of information to be had.

I've also paid for the class I'm taking in July, on canning green beans. I can't wait--learning to grow and preserve food for my family is a long-time goal of mine.

Well, enough about me for now! I've got more writing to do, plus editing, cover designing, housework (argh!) and stuff.

Until next time, Gentle Readers, take care.

Busy, busy, busy.

I'm trying some new software that will update my twitter and facebook from my blog posts. I hope it works, it will save me a few tasks (and I forget to tweet or post on fb half the time, anyway).

I was busy for a couple of days gathering stuff and helping my sister have a yard sale. It was a major dud--hardly anybody showed up. I made $5, and promptly spent $3 of it for a long coat rack with pegs and a nifty pineapple decoration!

Today I have been working on my novel, getting about 1,000 words done, bringing my total words I'm happy with to 6731. I've saved all the deleted scenes (about 2,000 words) so I can add some of it back at appropriate points in the story if it's needed.

I also spent some time putting in blank chapters with the major scenes sorted in so that the thing pretty much matches my original outline. Now all I have to do is click on the correct chapter and write whatever scene I have worked out in my head. Easy-peasy!

I love that I can do that in yWriter, because typing this thing in Word was getting crazy. Word is fine for my short stories, but the way I write novels works out better with yWriter.

Well, that's enough for today--maybe I'll get another writing session in before dinner.

Until next time, Gentle Readers.

A good day on the writing front.

So, I've been busy! Yesterday I wrote 3,000 words in my novel (currently titled Landfall), wrote a short story of about 1,000 words, and edited another short, adding about 300 words to that.

Total word count for Tuesday: 4,300. Now, that's a good day's writing! And, man did my hands ache.

I was really happy to get some good writing done on my novel, as I'd been kind of stuck on it lately. To get going I went back to yWriter and just started on a couple of scenes that had been vivid in my head. And it worked. Yay!

The new story I wrote came to me while I was washing dishes last night, pretty much complete from beginning to end. I love it when that happens, although it is kind of spooky--like I'm channeling some departed writer.

Oh, and the story I edited I also put up on Smashwords. I figured I'd try self publishing and see if anybody liked it. I've got some more short stories that I'm working on, and when they are finished and polished, they'll go up as well, hopefully within the week.

I'll put a link up for the Smashwords story in my next post. Or maybe I need a gadget on the side bar. Hmmm. Need to do teh google!

Well, so long until next time, Gentle Readers.

So, I didn't win.

The short story that I had entered into the PARSEC contest didn't win. It did make it to the second round, so I'm not too disappointed. Not too bad for a story that I knocked out in less than four hours from concept to last line!

So, out of the two stories that I've submitted so far, I've got one published and one rejected. There's still loads of stuff left to write and shop around! In fact, I've got one short story in final edit, and two more partially written.

Not to mention the novels in progress, and the non-fiction doll book--in fact, I've got a new doll from ebay to photograph, clean and repair, then draw patterns for, which will be a second book.

My idea folder is crammed full, and ideas keep coming!

On the non-writing front, I've been cleaning and sorting out my craft building, trying to get to the point where I can start scrapping again, and I'll need the space to do my sewing for the doll books.

Happy Father's Day to the dads of every stripe out there! I'm going to make some scrapbook pages for my parents' book today. I found some cute pictures of my youngest (Sk8monkey) with his "paw paw" while organizing, so that's what I'll work on.

Well, until next time, Gentle Readers.

What I did today.

I did not write today, instead I went with one of my sisters and Mother Dear to a few estate sales and yard sales. Got some nifty stuff, including two new Pyrex bowls and a pressure canner.

I've been wanting a canner for a long time, but no way was I going to pay upwards of $100 for a new one. So, this morning I found an old Sears canner, circa 1974, complete and in really good shape, for $30. Yeee-hawww!

The instruction book was with it, which is cool, but I know I can't use the times and pressure info due to changes in canning technology. This thing weighs a ton, too.

The wire thing on top is a jar lifter, and the brown-wrapped thing in the zippie bag is the pressure regulator. The seal looks brand new, so all it needs is a good cleaning, a proper canning chart, and something to can. I'm so happy.

Have I ever mentioned that I have a passion for old Pyrex? Well, I do. I love this stuff! It's all I use in the microwave, and I have pans to use in the oven for various baking jobs.

Today I found a nifty large bowl with 70s flowers that matches a small bowl I've had for a while. It's avocado green and really cute. I also found a large mix and pour bowl that is a shimmery almost teal color with gold decorations.

So, there you have it -- a fun day out with my family, and some cool bargains to boot. And I even went to the grocery store! Damn, I'm good. ha ha

Until next time, dear Readers. Take care and have some fun.
